PODiMOUTH Presents: @la_sien - they are an amazing #Houston #indie #band AND this week’s highlighted #artist!! Head over to our #blog now for a #free #download of their #song ‘Nueva Luz’ playing on this #video! - podimouth.com #music #website
La Sien is a Houston-based Spanish rock band whose popularity is rapidly taking off. However, their strong presence in the music scene is no accident. Their sound has been able to captivate, not only the Hispanic market in the local scene, but also the Anglo audience that is always looking for something new and fresh to saturate their ears with. We had the chance to interview La Sien about their music, personal music taste, and what made them the band they are today. Below you will find links to their social network pages as well as a free download of their song ‘Nueva Luz’ - ENJOY!
First of all, thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. How did you guys meet?
FAB: I met Dave via craigslist while looking for a bassist, Carlos (drums) and Erol (lead guitar) were musicians in other bands around town and eventually all of our projects just fell in together for this band.
What does music represent for you?
DAVE: To me music represents the things that people cannot say, so much is lost in translation for example: in Spanish there is no direct English equivalent for some words and it is also true between music and emotions, some emotions can not be spoken strong enough. I feel that music is our way to express ourselves.
You guys play Spanish pop/rock along with a few English songs. What made you go for Spanish songs over English?
FAB: Spanish is my first language, I think it has a beautiful expressive range, it comes natural to me to make lyrics in Spanish so I won’t resist it.
Where do you guys take inspiration from?
FAB: My dad and other indie/local bands.
Take us through the process of writing a song. How does la Sien get together and arrange a song?
FAB:We sometimes jam to a melody during our band practice, then I take it home and work on a chorus, or I may be driving to work and an idea comes to me and I’ll record it to work on it later.
If we go through your iPod, what kind of music would we find?
DAVE:Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Gustavo Cerati, Zoe, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Incubus, Jose Jose, Boyd Lee Dunlop, Bob Marley, Vocal Instructions for a New Breed, Ron Carter, Sublime, The Beatles, Fredrick Chopin, Bach. I like to think its its pretty eclectic.
FAB: kids music
Any musical guilty pleasures?
DAVE: I don’t know if I consider any music a GUILTY pleasure because all has its great qualities. I do enjoy some dance music. IE: Michael Jackson, Funk Brothers (anything Motown) and some Daft Punk.
FAB: kids music
We are giving away your song ‘Nueva Luz’. Tell us what the song is about.
FAB: The song is about starting over when someone you love is gone and how sometimes that is the best way to find who you really are (or used to be).
You recently opened for Zoe and Molotov. Tell us about those experiences.
FAB: They were really exciting, our main goal was to try and connect with their audience and we think that everyone had a good time. Playing at that level always sharpens our senses and it is very rewarding.
What are some cool new things that we can expect from La Sien in the coming months?
FAB: More recordings, videos and touring.
Houston is filled with artists and bands looking to make it big. After opening for Zoe and Molotov it would seem you guys are on your way to do just that. Do you have any advice for indie musicians who aspire to be like you?
FAB: we’ve been doing this for 4 years, it takes a lot of hard work, vision and sacrifice, believe in what you do and try new things, go to shows and support other bands, help each other out, there is so much to learn and many good times to be had.
Any last words to your fans and our audience?
FAB: We thank you for giving us a chance, we will make it worthwhile.
DAVE: We are grateful that our friends, and fans join us on this musical journey and see where it will take us.

Philly Rapper, Meek Mill, Gives Back To His Community.
MMG/Atlantic recording artist and Philadelphia native, Meek Mill has announced details for the first annual “A Dreamchaser’s Thanksgiving,” taking place Tuesday, November 26th and Wednesday, November 27th. The Pre-Thanksgiving Turkey giveaway will aim to feed nearly 600 families within the Philadelphia community.
“Philly raised me and made me into the man I am today, so to do the first annual ‘A Dreamchaser’s Thanksgiving,’ was an obvious thing to do. I’m blessed to be in a position where I can make sure that as many people as possible have a meal on Thanksgiving, so that they can be with their loved ones to enjoy the holiday.” Meek says of “A Dreamchaser’s Thanksgiving.”
In regards to the support he received to execute “A Dreamchaser’s Thanksgiving” Meek says, “This could not have been possible without the support of the Mayor and his amazing staff, as well as all of the other sponsors who are donating their time, money and turkeys. I’ve been all over the world but Philly is my home, and to be able to now give back is an amazing feeling.”
The turkeys will benefit local Philadelphia organizations including Youth Working Together, Town Watch and Unity In the Community. Guests will include Meek Mill, Mayor Michael Nutter and other various local elected officials. (*Please note* - all guest attendance/participation at events is subject to change).
“I applaud Meek Mill for taking the initiative to give back to his home town,” said Mayor Nutter. “Gathering together with family and friends around a shared meal is one of the most important aspects of the holiday season. It is important to give thanks for all that we have, and I am proud that one of Philadelphia’s own is donating his time and resources to make sure families in our city can do just that.”
